Anti - Racism
the policy or practice of opposing racism and promoting racial tolerance.
Fostr Collaborative is a community for collaborative creative support, conversations, and growth in Washington, DC. But today, we are using our community to give white and non-black POC a place to start in learning and un-learning what it truly means to be Anti-Racist. Being NOT RACIST is NOT ENOUGH!
We’ve pulled together a list of resources at the bottom of the page from the black voices in our communities. We are challenging the people of our community to do the work and take action within their own lives to learn (or un-learn!). Share what you are learning so that together we can support and encourage the change. Let’s READ, SUPPORT, WATCH, LISTEN, ACT AND DONATE.
You can also join us EVERY MONDAY at 5:00 PM
to participate in a guided conversation with focused topics on what we learned each week and hopefully we will be able to educate, grow, learn, un-learn, teach and activate change within ourselves, our families and our community. We will share the access to the weekly gathering every Sunday on our Instagram page @fostrcollaborative
Some notes:
We collected and reviewed these resources from the black voices in our community.
This is not a comprehensive list and we will be adding / removing as we learn and un-learn so if you have something to share, please do!!
Doing these things and participating in conversations is only a start to the work that needs to be done
We recognize that this is not going to be easy and we may make mistakes but the important thing is that we continue to learn and make change.
FAQ’s about the discussion group
Who is the target audience?
Anyone that feels that they have something to share or learn.
Who will be the leading the discussion? Can I lead the discussion?
We are opening to having anyone who feels they have a particular topic they want to share, get input on, or learn more about. If you would like to be a leader, please send us a note.
Is this just for white people?
No, this is for people of all races. But we want to make sure that as white people we are doing our part to do the work and not put all the responsibility on the black community to enact change.
What are the ground rules for participating?
Be open to learning, be respectful of each other, be accepting of others thoughts and feelings. The conversations will have a leader but we hope that everyone will be able to kindly participate in the conversation. The leader will act as a catalyst for the conversation, kick things off and at times guide it, but we recognize that they might not have all the answers and might also be there to learn.
How long will these conversations last?
We will try to keep them to 1 hour to respect everyone’s time. However, we encourage people to connect through the process to continue the conversation outside of the group discussions.
How are you going to center black voices when the group is being led by white people and participated in by white people?
We are not sure yet! This will be ever evolving. Our hope is that by using the resources that black voices have already created that we will be able to amplify them and create change.
Why is this not a book group?
While we hope to have leaders suggest specific resources and materials to discuss each week, we want to start this conversation somewhat broadly so that hopefully each person can figure out how to move forward within their own lives and take action in their communities.
I know a lot of people that need guidance knowing where to start, can I get more people in my personal circle involved?
We would love you help with that! The more the merrier! Please feel free to share this webpage and our instagram page @fostrcollaborative so that they can get more information and join in.
If I participate, will my personal information or email be shared or added to an email list?
NOPE! While we hope that members will be able to connect offline, we will not give out or keep any of your personal information without your consent. Your email will ONLY be used to share meeting invitations and materials.
Do you have thoughts, feelings or questions? Want to participate in a meaningful way? Please email us hello@fostrcollaborative.com
